My Personal Training experience at the Hub – Gemma Watts

I have a few mechanical-type medical conditions and was told by several medical professionals not to do too much in the way of exercise, but I wanted to do more to help strengthen my body to help with these problems.

I joined the Hub in 2015 and started off with some yoga to ease me back into moving my body again. I know I can’t do any high impact exercise and was struggling to work out what I could and couldn’t do but I wanted to do more. So I started PT sessions with Charlie and it’s been amazing!

I now do weight training, which I absolutely love, and I can do so much more than I thought. Charlie has really understood my restrictions but brought out my strengths and given me loads of ways to support my weaker areas and this has made such a difference to my every day life. I know this sounds a little cheesy but when you’re on 10+ pills a day for pain, this sort of thing really does make all the difference!

I train at least 5 days a week now and every time I go there, the team are always so welcoming and helpful and there is a really good atmosphere in the gym, they have a great selection of machines and weights as well as a wide range of classes, it’s practically my second home now!

Clubbercise with Aimee coming in October!

What is Clubbercise?

Clubbercise® has grown from a single class dreamt up by three friends, to becoming one of the biggest dance fitness concepts to hit the fitness industry since Zumba!

Clubbercise® – simple, fun dance fitness routines using glow sticks to club anthems from 90′s classics to the latest chart hits taught in a darkened room with disco lights.

Because of the high and low impact options Clubbercise dance fitness classes are great if you’re a beginner or if you’re already a fitness freak!

The choreography

A blend of simple aerobic and street dance moves offering high and low impact options aimed at all abilities.

The music

A mix of 90’s classics up to the very latest floorfillers. What makes it so unique is that every class takes place with the main lights out, disco lights on, and all routines incorporate our trademark flashing glow sticks – providing a bonus arm workout!

The fusion of simple choreography, banging tunes, and an uplifting nightclub atmosphere attracted hundreds of instructors within the first two years, and is now the way roughly 50,000 people UK-wide are choosing to keep fit every week.

Co-Founder Claire Burlison Green explains:

“Over the years we tried various dance fitness classes but couldn’t find one that played the type of music we really wanted to hear – the kind of tracks that keep you glued to the dancefloor on a night out.

We don’t get to go clubbing as often as we used to due to work and family commitments and we also wanted a fun way to keep fit, so we decided to try and combine all of the highs of a night out with a healthy workout.

Introducing disco lights to create a nightclub atmosphere seemed obvious rather than teaching the classes in a brightly lit room, people feel a lot less self-conscious in the dark and can really let go.”

The popularity of Clubbercise classes has grown and grown, with instructors and gyms reporting sell out figures and huge attendance numbers week on week.

As Clubbercise continues to grow, sharing the success with Oxfam is important to its founders, who recognise that our ‘clubbers’ drink loads of water at every class and sadly some of the poorest people on the planet don’t have the luxury of clean drinking water. Every time a new Clubbercise instructor signs-up we donate to Oxfam to help them provide enough water for 10 people in need.

What happens in a Clubbercise class?

After checking in you’ll be given a set of flashing rave glow sticks, these are reusable so much more environmentally friendly than the single use ones. We darken the room, get the disco lights going and start with a simple warm up routine. Then we work up a sweat dancing to floorfillers from 90′s rave to recent dance anthems. The routines are easy-to-follow and always have high or low impact options. It’s all about fun, not about perfection. Take it to your level, keep it simple and enjoy the music.

What are the benefits of Clubbercise classes?

> You get to dance to your favourite tracks without a hangover the next day!
> Dancing in the dark with disco lights and lasers means you can really let go
> Dancing with rave glow sticks gives your arms a good work out
> You’ll burn around 500 calories in an hour
> You’ll tone your muscles

Do I need to be an experienced dancer?

Definitely not! We deliberately make our routines easy-to-follow so you can relax and enjoy it rather than worrying about getting the steps wrong.

How much is it?

Classes are £6.50 for non-members at the fitness hub or included in our memberships.

What should I wear/bring?

No heels! Just trainers and sportswear/streetwear/fitness clothing… something you can dance in… and make sure you bring some water.

Ian Scammell  – my lead up to the UKDFBA UK Championships 2016
I am Ian Scammell a competitive natural bodybuilder and I am currently training for 2016 UKDFBA (United kingdom drug free bodybuilding association) UK championships on October 16th in the Masters category, to which I am the current champion.
Currently I am training 5 days a week at the Fitness Hub,  this consists of 1 hour of resistance training and 20 mins of HIIT training on a spin bike and this year I’ve planned a 16 week diet. I am hoping to retain my title and earn an invite to the WNBF (world natural bodybuilding federation ) World championships in November.
I have been training at the Hub now for 3 years, it’s a very well equipped gym and caters for everybody from children to pensioners and it also has a good friendly atmosphere .
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the proprietors the staff and all the fellow members for all the support they have given me.
