After having completed a degree in Marketing and Drama Claire went on to build a career in Sales. Claire opened The Portishead Hub in 2011, moving into the new premises in 2013. During that period Claire had a little girl, Ava in 2012 and a boy, Presley in 2013. Naturally motivated and motivational, Claire returned back to fitness and training and hasn’t looked back. In 2016 she expanded the brand and hub Chepstow was born. Now she manages both gyms and plans to extend the business again in the future. Claire is constantly looking at ways to expand her knowledge and alongside the business is passionate about The Hub Body Transformation courses designed for women.

It almost goes without saying (if you’ve read the above!) that Claire is hard-working and ambitious and dotes on her ‘two little babies’. Having done it herself she also loves helping people get back into fitness, tries to help local charities as much as she can and quite simply “loves the environment of the gym.” Running your own business is challenging, it can be hard to fit everything in and you can’t always please everyone but at the hub we definitely try. Claire credits the talented team that works for her to ensure that the hub is a friendly, independent and approachable gym with lots of character.

Charlie James

Personal Trainer and Crossfit Coach

Charlie has a passion for Personal Training and Instructing and enjoys motivating his clients to the fullest. As a fitness professional, Charlie executes a positive attitude combined with challenging exercises suiting his client’s specific goals

Charlie devises specific exercise programs using functional movements on the gym floor and his knowledge as a bodyweight expert to bring a lot of creativity to his style of training and to help track your progression for success.

He understands balance in living a healthy lifestyle through correct nutrition and fitness. Posture, balance and strength are key elements for lifelong fitness.

I first joined the hub to take part in the Body Transformation Bootcamp in April 2014 and found a new love for fitness and training. Following the course I continued going to many studio sessions a week loving the variety of classes on offer. Since October 2016 I also joined CrossFit Portishead and have loved learning more new training ideas and joining the community.

Later in 2014 the opportunity came up to work at the hub with the administration department, I jumped at the chance and have since taken on more and more responsibilities over time to become Portishead General Manager.

It is great to work and train with such a friendly highly motivated team in a job that I also get to meet and assist such a large and wide variety of clients.

I joined the hub as a Gym Assistant in August 2015 after previously being a member since June 2014. I wasn’t always interested in fitness from a gym aspect until I joined the hub and started to get to know other members and all of the staff, which helped me learn more about training and try out all different types of exercise! I started training at CrossFit Portishead and I absolutely love the variety of weights, gymnastics and general fitness.

Since working at the hub, I have studied for my Level 2 and Level 3 Personal Training qualifications and have taken on various classes across both gyms alongside working full time as the Manager of our Chepstow premises. Teaching classes is so rewarding and it always makes me feel good when I see members pushing themselves and getting a sweat on!

Every day is different, and I love working with such a friendly team who are always motivating each other as well as all the members we see.

Jeff Nutt

Jeff has a passion for Personal Training, Body Building and helping clients reach their goals. Jeff has previously competed on the Bodybuilding circuit winning the European Championships in 2005 and placing 7th at Mr Universe the same year. On placing in the British Bodybuilding Championships in 2009 Jeff once again qualified for Mr Universe.

Whether your goals are to lose weight and gain general fitness or to obtain a look similar to that of a bodybuilder or fitness competitor Jeff has the expertise to help you reach those objectives.

Sarah Matyjasik

Sarah has been weight training for many years and has always loved being fit and strong. After a ‘decide to decide’ moment in January 2015 Sarah realised it was time to shift and take her fitness to a new level. Following the FIT programme with Forever due to loving the products and working with them for over 10 years Sarah achieved great results and was inspired to set some new ‘big fitness goals’ one of which was to get on stage and compete. In September 2015 Sarah stepped on stage for the very first time, finding it scary but also a lot of fun she qualified for a place in the British PCA finals the following year, she has since competed again in 2016 in two more shows and received invites to the British PCA and NABBA Novice finals.

Sarah has now completed her formal training in fitness to Level 3 in Personal Training to underpin all the experience she has gained over the years to put to good use helping clients achieve their health & fitness goals. Having a real passion for nutrition Sarah believes this is a huge part of success in long term body fat loss and muscle or lean tissue gains.

Currently studying for an Advanced Diploma in Nutrition & Weight management, Sports Nutrition, Children’s Nutrition & Obesity, Pre & Post Natal Nutrition and Behavioural Change Management Sarah believes this will allow her to provide even more specific programmes for her clients to enable them to make even greater lifestyle changes.

James Allen

Personal Trainer & Gym Assistant - Chepstow & Portishead

James originally discovered his interest for fitness from competing as an amateur boxer from a young age, then at the age of 16 realised his passion was weight lifting. This h progressed onto focusing on body building and training for aesthetics. He continues to use functional training in his workouts to increase strength and performance.

‘I am highly motivated to help others to achieve their personal goals, as this gives me just as much satisfaction as achieving my own.’

In June 2016 James competed in his first body building show and came 3rd place at UKDFBA USN classic in the teen category. From doing this he learnt a lot about diet and nutrition, as well as various ways of training to achieve the high standard of conditioning. ‘This has inspired me to use my knowledge to help clients accomplish their goals; whether they are looking to lose body fat, gain muscle or improve general fitness. I believe it is important to tailor fitness regimes to suit individuals as everybody wants different results.’

I hadn’t always been very active when I was young, I had tried many different sports and physical activities growing up but nothing that I was enthusiastic enough to stick with. That was until a friend of mine introduced me to the gym while at university. After seeing some great positive results in myself both physically and mentally as well as the many close friendships I had made at the gym I knew it had me hooked for life and it quickly became my favourite thing to do outside of my artwork.

After university I went travelling in America and I discovered Calisthenics which has become my main focus in the gym as I love the variety of challenging things I can do with my own body and its focus on movement and flexibility.

I had been coming to the hub for years before I began working here and it as always been my favourite gym to go to as it brings together many different aspects of physical activity under one roof to form a great community of people passionate about fitness.

Hi! I’m Daisy, your new PT. My passion in life is helping others find empowerment, strength and confidence, the same way I did.

I specialise in weight lifting, cardio strength training and HITT and love nothing more than the feeling I get after a hard session, when I’ve burned off some steam and my muscles are fully exhausted. I’ve helped people achieve their health and fitness goals through at home workouts for the past 6 months, and now I’m ready to take it a step further.

Whether you want to build that J-Lo bum, tone up, lose fat or just generally get your health and fitness up, I’ll be your biggest fan and will be cheering you on and holding your hand, every step of the way.

I cater for all my clients needs, creating fun and innovative programs. I love to help people
who hate gyms to fall in love with fitness.

As a mum of two beautiful children, who are also passionate about fitness, I understand how
hard it is to get time to work out, but it is so important for you to get back to exercise with an
expert who understands exactly what postnatal bodies need.

I specialise in high intensity workouts that maximum calorie burn in minimum time, also
working on strength, conditioning and technique.

My name is Jack and I’m a new Gym Instructor in the Chepstow hub! I have recently decided to change career paths and follow my passion into fitness.

I have been training since I was 15 to develop my strength for Rugby, and developed a keen interest in the industry as a result. I have recently obtained my Level 2 instructor and I will be starting my Level 3 shortly to provide the best level of training that I can for my clients.

I want to make training fun and interesting, ensuring that you keep coming back and develop sustainable and healthy habits for your long-term health. I can help with goal-setting and targets to ensure that we keep you on track and motivated, adjusting accordingly to whatever you might have going on.

I specialise in sports related conditioning and general strength training. Whether you want to tone up or increase your strength I can help you achieve this!
It is my aim to help you enjoy training as much as I do with plenty of variety of results along the way!

Having gone through her own body transformation and overhauling her lifestyle, Jade understands what it takes to make achievable and sustainable progress towards body composition and measurable fitness goals. Despite being relatively inactive during her teenage years and early twenties Jade is now obsessed with everything health and fitness, and committed to improving her knowledge and practice as a trainer.
Jade previously trained as a senior school teacher and worked in the education sector for 6 years before deciding to follow her passion for exercise and to retrain as a personal trainer and gym instructor. She started CrossFit in December 2017 and was instantly hooked by the variety and intensity of the workouts as well as the friendly and supportive community the sport offers. She qualified as a Level 1 CrossFit trainer in July 2018.
Jade is dedicated to helping her clients be the best versions of themselves through tailor-made, fully individualized exercise plans and up to date nutrition advice backed by the latest in evidence-based research. Whether you are looking to lose weight, build muscle, or just generally improve your health and fitness levels, Jade will work with you to help you achieve your goals.

I started attending The Hub in Chepstow when it first opened and thought it had such a good atmosphere and vibe throughout the gym. Every member of staff made me feel so much more confident and was always there if I needed some help in any way. This is when I decided I wanted to be a part of the lovely Hub team.

I was employed as the administrator assistant which is so me because I want to continue this career throughout life. I started studying a Business Diploma at Filton College in September 2016 and I have nearly completed the course. Fitness never used to be my strong point but working here has made me realise training is so important and the encouragement from all the other members of staff is amazing and they are the ones that stop me from eating a piece of cake every day.
